“Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”
The beautiful function of Scripture, always in concert with God’s Holy Spirit, is to reveal the Person, and desire of God – that He would be known, revered, and worshipped.
The words above, from Deuteronomy 6:4-5, are to the nation of Israel as they had come out from under slavery in Egypt, it asserts the Name of their God – Yahweh, and how they are to revere Him – with their entirety.
Devout Jews recited this (and still do), the Shema, multiple times a day as a reminder of their priorities.
We do well to have this ideal imprinted upon our hearts as well, as to who it is we are to worship and love, and the degree to which we are to do it!
[The intent of this category, Machaira, on TheShepherdsPen is to focus on particular key verses, for doctrinal understanding, and for those who desire, memorization.]
