It seems as though we live in a world where we are constantly being attacked. It is the real-life experience of Space Invaders. Everywhere we turn, threats abound. Danger lurks around every corner. I am not paranoid, but this is just the way of the world in which we live. What are we to do about it; how can we protect ourselves? Perhaps some of the following information will be helpful.
First of all, note that it is advisable NOT to ride in automobiles as 20% of all fatalities occur while riding in automobiles. Second, by all means, do not stay at home as 17% of accidents occur there. Third, do not walk on streets or sidewalks because 14% of accidents happen to those that do. Forth, avoid traveling by air, rail, or water because 16% of all accidents involve these forms of transportation. Now, of the remaining 33% of the accidents or deaths that occur, 32% occur in hospitals, so steer clear of these. Who would have guessed that these places could be so dangerous?
You will be pleased to note that only .001% of all deaths occur in worship services at church, and these are usually due to pre-existing conditions that the people brought in with them. Whaddayaknow, church is the safest place you can be at any point in time! For the record, this applies to Bible studies as well. So, spend time in church and Bible studies! By all means, go to church and Bible study, it could save your life. If you follow this advice you will surely be okay and live a long healthy life.
Now, obviously this is a tongue-in-cheek response to a real concern. But we are under constant attack from Satan and the world around us. We may not be exempt from the physical threats that surround us, but we can be secure. God’s Word tells us, “The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it and is safe” (Proverbs 18:10). The word in the Hebrew for “LORD” is Yahweh. God’s name!
The idea is that whoever is enveloped in the name of Yahweh, is safe, is secure, is protected. Whoever belongs to the Lord is like a person in a mighty fortress. Whoever the Lord places His name upon, whoever He says about, “this one is mine. This one belongs to Yahweh,” that person is safe. Not only in the here and now, but for eternity.
This doesn’t mean that we will not be attacked, but it does mean that those fiery darts of the evil one will hit against the mighty tower of God’s name like mere toothpicks. So, it really is true that the safest place to be is in church. Well, sort of. We need to be where we are learning about God, and where we are developing a relationship with Yahweh, the Creator of the universe, and the lover of our souls. Our safety is in God.
So the question is, “how do we access that strong tower?” The door to that strong tower is through Jesus Christ. Our entry is through faith in God’s Son Jesus Christ. If we believe in Him, and confess Him, we are granted entry into that strong tower.
Run to Him. Run into the tower.
