The beautiful function of Scripture is to reveal the Person, and desire of God – that He would be known, and followed.
The words above, from Deuteronomy 6:4-5 are to the nation of Israel as they had come out from under slavery in Egypt, it asserts the Name of their God – Yahweh, and how they are to revere Him – with their entirety.
Devout Jews recited this (and still do), the Shema, multiple times a day as a reminder of their priorities.
We do well to have this ideal imprinted upon our hearts as to who it is we are to worship and love, and the degree to which we are to do it!
